Hellllllooooooo out there! Can anyone hear me? Believe it or not, we are still alive!
Some of you may have noticed that we kinda went AWOL from the blog just over a year ago, and I promise you there was good reason for that. In short, we found ourselves completely burnt out on Los Angeles living and were in a deep season of reevaluating and redirecting our priorities. That also included a time of deciding whether we even wanted to blog anymore or not.
During that period, a couple of major changes took place for us.
1. Baby Leif was Born
Our son Leif Caspar was born on May 25, 2017. He was truly a breath of fresh air for our family and the sweetest little blessing the Lord could have given us since the moment he was born. I can’t wait to share more about him with you guys!
2. We Bought our Mini “Homestead” in Minneapolis
The second major change took place when we packed up all of our stuff — which wasn’t much because, let’s face it, we’re minimalists! — and moved to Minneapolis.
We bought our first little house there, a precious 1,000 sq ft ranch-style home built in 1954. The house sits on a corner lot with virtually ZERO backyard, but we have determined to grow as much food as we can learn how to on the front and side lawns. We also hope to add chickens, and maybe bees, over the next few years as budget and city permits allow.
3. We decided to Rebrand the Blog
Throughout the entire season of reevaluating, we struggled a lot over whether we would take down the blog completely, just ignore it, or try to pick it back up again.
I had originally started My Darla Clementine out of such a genuine place, wanting to share my creative ventures in DIY and Natural Living. Somehow over time, though, my perspective had changed. I found myself creating content for others rather than creating from my heart. None of it was dishonest, I just didn’t connect with it anymore.
Our daily lives changed so much after moving to Minneapolis. I didn’t have the time or desire to create things that weren’t from my heart… even if I could make money blogging about them.
Then it hit us.
I didn’t have to stop blogging. I just needed to blog about the things that were truly important to our family and relevant to our day to day lives… the things that would be happening around here whether or not I posted them online.
Things like minimalism and homesteading. WAIT – we could be the Minimalist Homesteaders! And we could still write about creating, exploring, and natural living too. But this time the content would follow our life’s agenda instead of the other way around.
So get ready for our rebrand, friends, because its coming soon! 🙂 It will be the same old us, but a bit more raw and you’ll get to know us a lot better on a personal level. My hope is that we will get a chance to know you better through it too.
Let’s continue to make this a deeply meaningful community! Thanks so much for being here!
(Chris, Melissa, Clementine, Darla, and Leif)
